Sports massage is primarily concerned with rehabilitation and injury prevention, enabling increased levels of sporting performance or functional fitness for all.
It works by affecting the muscle fibres to lengthen and promote optimum tone allowing more efficiency and greater joint movement. The increased blood flow produced by massage also prevents the likelihood of injury and reduces recovery time if injury occurs.
Sports massage is appropriate for all and treats a wide variety of muscular-skeletal and soft tissue related conditions. Patients include elite athletes, recreational runners, weekend footballers, office workers, mums and dads, and musicians to name a few.
Treatments last up to 45 minutes and some areas can be uncomfortable when being massaged but you will be asked throughout if you are in discomfort and whether you are happy to proceed.
